Edelmiro Muñiz, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board

Photo of Ed MunizEdelmiro (Ed) Muñiz was born in Harlingen, Texas. Along with his six brothers, he often supplemented the family income as an agricultural field hand. His family migrated annually to California to work in the fields picking peaches, grapes, tomatoes and other fruits. His first exposure to the business world was through his father's tortilla factory, operated between trips to California.

He received a B.S. in 1967 and an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering in 1969 from Texas A&M University. In 1969, he joined the United States Air Force and was assigned as a Space Systems Launch Controller at Vandenberg AFB, California. There he worked on numerous space programs, directing the development of new launch facilities, buildup and testing of space boosters, and placement of new satellites into Earth orbit to aid U.S. military operations in Vietnam.

Ed's Air Force career spanned over twenty years in numerous assignments, all related to space research and development, and management of space operations. He served as a launch vehicle analyst, a space shuttle integration engineer, a space systems operational test manager and as a space operations staff officer. In his final assignment, he served as Commander of the First Manned Space Flight Control Squadron at NASA's Johnson Space Center, Houston. Lt. Colonel Muñiz retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1989 to launch a new career in private industry.

In 1989, Ed went to work for a small aerospace engineering firm in Houston. He served as Director of Operations, managing several contracts with the Department of Defense, NASA and the European Space Agency.

In January 1992, he founded Muñiz Engineering, Inc. to provide engineering and related technical services to the U.S. government and the private sector in the Houston area. Through his leadership and guidance, Muñiz Engineering, Inc. has developed into a successful, fast-growing, high-tech firm. In October 2005, the company changed its name to MEI Technologies, Inc. (MEI Technologies) in order to reflect the growth and growing capabilities of the corporation.

Whether serving on the Board or as an advocate of youth education, Ed is a model of professional excellence and personal integrity. He is committed to the development of new technologies and continuing our exploration of space. Ed is actively involved in the community, striving to enhance the welfare of our society and inspire our youth to remain in school and further their education. His plight of the disadvantaged and his position at MEI Technologies provides the opportunity to act as a mentor and give back to our community through employment opportunities, economic growth and community service. Ed now serves the company as an advisor to the chairman of the board.

Mr. Muñiz was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Award Winner in Houston & Gulf Coast Area, technology category.

Mr. Muñiz resides in the Greater Bay Area with his wife Alicia. He is a proud Aggie and grandfather of six.


Stephanie Murphy, Executive Chairman of the Board

Photo of Stephanie Murphy, Deputy CEOStephanie Murphy currently serves as the Executive Chairman of the Board. Prior to this role, Stephanie served as Executive Vice Chairman of the Board and Deputy Chief Executive Officer for MEIT, leading the company alongside the CEO. She has also served as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for MEIT, managing the shared services function for corporate headquarters.

Stephanie has a Business Degree from Texas A&M University, and is currently enrolled in a procurement program at the University of Virginia. She serves on the Board of Managers for AM Biotechnologies, LLC. She has been a member of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) since 2004, recently graduated from NCMA's Leadership Development Program, and serves as a Board Member for the local chapter as the Vice President of Education. She is also a member of the National Management Association and National Defense Industrial Association. Previously, Stephanie served on the Johnson Space Center Procurement Roundtable Council and the JSC Innovation and Inclusion Consortium.


David Cazes, Chief Executive Officer

Photo of Art Sulkin, Chief Strategy and Development OfficerAs the second CEO in company history, David Cazes joined MEIT in November 2012. Reporting to the Executive Chairman of the Board, David leads the executive team and defines the future direction of the company.

Prior to MEIT, David served as Deputy Manager for Science Applications International Corporation’s Space, Aviation, and Science Operation (SASO) headquartered in Washington, DC. David’s Operation included over 900 direct and subcontract engineers, scientists, and technical specialists supporting the full life cycle of program development and execution from concept to operations in a diverse portfolio of contract types with focus on systems engineering, program and project integration, earth and space science, and aviation services for our federal civilian customers.

David is a graduate of Louisiana State University with a BS in Electrical Engineering.


Karen Todd, Associate Financial Officer

Photo of Karen Todd As the Associate Financial Officer, Karen Todd supports the board for general financial oversight. She previously served as CFO, where she was responsible for overseeing accounting, finance & program control, contracts, human resources and information systems for MEI Technologies. She joined the company in 2001 as controller.

Karen began her career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Company (now KPMG), where she specialized in the energy sector and audited various clients. In 1985, she became a CPA and began consulting with small companies. Karen launched a full-time government career in 1991 with a local NASA-JSC contractor, where she worked as controller. Later, she joined the contractor's accounting firm, BKD, which also audited MEI Technologies.

Karen graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.


Richard Larson, Executive Director of Business Development

Photo of Rich LarsonRichard (Rich) Larson is the Executive Director of Business Development for MEI Technologies. In this position, Rich is responsible for leading MEIT's identification, capture and bid of new business opportunities in the federal and commercial sectors. He plays an integral role in the development and execution of the company's strategic objectives and expansion into new markets.

Prior to joining MEIT, Rich was a Vice President for Business Development at SAIC leading the organization's strategic planning and capture of new opportunities with a focus on space and launch programs. As an SAIC Division Manager, he led an organization providing engineering, test and evaluation, payload development, project management, and mission evaluation services to NASA on the International Space Station, Space Shuttle and Constellation Programs. Prior to joining SAIC, Rich worked for Fairchild Republic and Grumman Aircraft supporting several Air Force and Navy Design, Development, Test & Evaluation (DDT&E) efforts; these included the T-46A Next Generation Trainer development and operational test program conducted at Edwards AFB, the F-14D upgrades test program, and the F-111A/E/EF Avionics Modernization Program performed at McClellan AFB.

Rich earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from the State University of New York College at Buffalo.
