Spaceflight Engineering Support (Boeing Contract)
This contract provides systems engineering,
testing, and sustaining engineering support to the NASA Space
Shuttle and International Space Station Programs. Tasks performed
include preparing test requirements documents, test procedures,
and test documentation; planning and conducting structural/mechanical,
electrical, environmental, and performance testing at the
system, subsystem, and assembly levels; and supporting element
and systems verification testing at JSC, MSFC, and KSC, which
may involve testing at the subsystem, system, or complete
vehicle integrated level. Typical of the projects completed
include acceptance testing on ISS flight units such as the
Pump Module, and Heat Exchanger; providing anomaly resolution
and failure analysis of operational systems; and developing
an On-Orbit Data Analysis Tool (OODAT) program to import,
store and analyze Orbiter Data Reduction Complex (ODRC) data.
MEI personnel utilize a comprehensive knowledge, both broad
and deep, allowing us to troubleshoot problems that cut across
multiple systems and subsystems. For example, MEI personnel
were instrumental in dealing with the ISS Carbon Dioxide Removal
Assembly (CDRA) check valve failure on orbit by working with
the vendor to develop the "single-bed mode" that
allowed continued CDRA operation with one of two critical
internal check valves in a failed state.
