Enabling Technology and Security
MEI provides information technology
managed security services and data center operations for NASA’s
Johnson Space Center. Managed security services include development,
implementation and operation of security infrastructure solutions,
network security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability
scanning and reduction, and network content management. For
operations of data centers, MEI supports advanced infrastructure
development and implementation, systems integration and operations,
systems administration, sustaining engineering, disaster planning
and recovery, performance monitoring and tuning, capacity
management and planning, maintenance and license agreements,
facility operations and physical security, and environmental
monitoring.
MEI employs a patent-pending
security information management tool in support of security
operations. MEI manages approximately 300 institutional systems
from the enterprise firewalls that protect data to complex
engineering application systems such as the Engineering Computational
Facility and the Design Data Management System used to design
and analyze NASA spacecraft. Disciplines employed in support
of the capabilities described above include requirements definition,
configuration management, integration, testing and validation,
modeling and simulation, and training and deployment. Typical
of the projects completed include:
- Recently, MEI completed
the development of a consolidated storage area network for
operational use at JSC that provides backup and disaster
recovery capabilities for approximately 300 institutional
servers totaling over 70 TB of data. In addition, MEI proposed
and is in the process of implementing a new content filtering
solution for the IT security infrastructure which will save
NASA over $200K in the next 5 years.
