CEO:
Edelmiro Muñiz
In 1992, Edelmiro (Ed) Muñiz
founded Muñiz Engineering, Inc. (now known as MEI Technologies,
Inc.) (MEI) to provide engineering services to the U.S. Government
and the private sector. Through Ed’s leadership and
guidance as CEO and President, MEI’s services expanded
to provide NASA, Department of Defense (DoD), and commercial
customers with services in information technology, safety,
reliability, quality assurance and aerospace engineering.
With a growing workforce of more than 600 employees, MEI has
offices in Texas, California, Colorado, Florida, Maryland,
New Mexico, Mississippi and Ohio.
In 2004, Ed brought
on board Mr. Alfred (Sam) Boyd as president of MEI, which
enabled Ed to take on other business ventures while maintaining
his role as MEI CEO. He worked with New Mexico State, spawning
a new business entity in the Rio Grande high-tech corridor,
Optical Surface Technologies (OST). Ed also aided in launching
e-Merge Works, a company dedicated to providing web services
to the commercial and civil sectors.
Prior to founding
MEI, Ed served in the United States Air Force for 20 years.
Ed’s first assignment was as a Space Systems Launch
Controller at Vandenberg AFB, CA. His dynamic career in the
USAF included assignments such as launch vehicle analyst,
space shuttle integration engineer, space systems operational
test manager, and space operations staff officer. Retiring
as a Lt. Colonel, he served his last assignment as Commander
of the First Manned Space Flight Control Squadron at National
Aeronautics and Space Administration Johnson Space Center
(NASA JSC) in Houston, Texas.
Ed actively supports
several mentor-protégé relationships, mentoring
both formally through the NASA JSC program as well as through
independent informal relationships. He is a strong believer
in giving back to the community and is involved in many organizations
and outreach programs. Every year, Ed volunteers 1,000 hours
of annual technical consultation through Bay Area Houston
Economic Partnership’s (BAHEP) Space Alliance Technical
Outreach Program. He is the founder of the Small Business
Government Contractor Council, a Houston bay area council
comprised of over 30 small business aerospace companies working
together to share best practices, a shared voice, and attract
new business to the area.
Ed has received recent
regional and national recognition as 2005 and 2004 NASA JSC
Small Business Mentor of the Year, 2004 National Minority
Business Development Agency National Male Minority Entrepreneur
of the Year, National Minority Supplier Development Council
2004 National Supplier of the Year, and one of Hispanic Business
Magazine’s Top 100 Fastest Growing Hispanic-Owned businesses.
MEI, as a company entity, has received numerous other awards
and recognition.
Ed earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University.
He continued his studies at Texas A&M, obtaining a Masters
of Science in Aerospace Engineering.
